Peaceful Outing?

July 3, 2019

When I think of summer, I think of fun in the sun. You can sleep a little later, watch a little bit more tv and keep active with water fun to stay cool.  Also, you have the opportunity to do different activities, keeping busy.  Maybe a summer bucket list?  Things you don't have time to do during a busy school year? One of my husband's bucket list idea's is to see every lighthouse in New Jersey,  in 3 months. A good challenge?

I don't know about you, but I dislike to hear the words "I am bored."  So I try to keep the kids moving steadily.  At the beginning of each season, I fill out a planner with things that are available for us to do.  It could be free local things, like county parks or goal things like all state lighthouses. I write everything in the planner which is subject to weather and children's behaviors.  Just like it doesn't make for a good day at the pool in the rain, a screaming child will not go to the amusement park!

This morning I had planned a fun excursion at a local county reservoir.  I invited Craftie A and her kiddo's hoping to go together. The County provides free fishing 101 for kids.  They provide the poles, bait, and instructors to teach the kids how the set the pole with bait and cast out.  As well as guiding them during the waiting process and reeling in your fish.  Our Reservoir also has a activity center with a picnic area and playground if the kids get sick of fishing or are hungry.

I was excited!  I enjoy fishing and thought it would be good for the kids to learn.  I woke up nice and early, made lunch, and spent time with Jesus.  However, when I tried to corral my children this morning, it was a nightmare!  All three were whining and complaining.  One didn't want to get dressed, and the other couldn't move because they were too tired and the last one was back talking.  I took a deep breath and looked around, "why am I doing this"?  I am completely irritated and annoyed, and I haven't even walked out the door yet!  My main concern was feeling guilty canceling on Crafty A.  I had confirmed just the night before what our plans were, and now it's all to the wind.

What do you do when you lose your peace in the middle of a plan?  Well, I decided the best thing for me to do was stay home.  I realize sometimes I want something more than the kids do.  In that breathing moment I decided instead of rushing them around and getting crabby, I would say forget it. We are having some heart and respect issues that need work.   I will let go of anger and frustration, and the kids can enjoy the day in there rooms until we can learn how to work better together.

What do you do when you lose your peace?
