Preschool book club
Literacy is so important to our young learners! We want to teach our children the joy of reading early because it is the foundational basis of all other subjects. Recently my neighbor (Craftie A) and I have decided to have a book club twice a month with our preschoolers. We wanted to pick books that have good story lines, are fun, funny and vibrant in color. So for our first book we chose:
"The Day the Crayons Quit", by Drew Daywalt.
1. Read & Discuss
2. Color
3. Snack time
This book is about a boy named Duncan who has to do an assignment for his class. When he goes into his crayon box to complete his assignment, he see's letters that all the crayons quit. He reads all the letters from the crayons who are expressing there feelings of displeasure in how they are treated. Duncan needs to figure out a way to keep them all happy.

The children each received a coloring book and crayons. As we read the story aloud we would have the kids pick out the appropriate colors to match that which we were discussing. Having the crayons on the wall helped us reinforce the colors better.
All fun is well rounded with a good snack! For this book club Craftie A made a colorful pudding with graham crackers and fruit snacks.
Our first meeting was a success by all! The kids enjoyed the book while learning reading is fun! Which is always the goal, to make all learning fun. Stay tuned for the next one!
